Behind this curtain, some of Greenwich's youngest learners are being transported outside their classroom to a world with talking bugs and animals.

"What's that?" asked one of the preschoolers. "A beetle," said their guest reader, prompting the students to say "ewwww" in unison.

Tuesday morning, the Greenwich Alliance for Education's Storymobile stopped at the Greenwich YMCA Child Care Center to share "The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle, and teach the preschoolers something new.

"The storymobile is a mobile classroom that sees seven area preschools in our community," said Greenwich Alliance for Education Executive Director Julie Faryniarz.

"Literacy is such a huge part in what we do in terms of getting children to enjoy reading and making sure they understand the importance of print. The storymobile just brings literacy alive for them,"said David Cohen, Senior Director of Programs & Membership for Greenwich YMCA Child Care.

"They get on board and they are exciting about this new classroom space. They know that every week different things are going to happen," said Faryniarz.

The storymobile has been stopping at the Greenwich YMCA Child Care Center on Saint Roch Avenue for the past six years. Each year there are 15 visits and 48 kids board the bus each time.

And teachers says having the storymobile come to school is an important resource for their students.

"It brings somebody else to the building besides us who are reading to them and they see someone else who is also enthusiastic about reading so it lets them know that reading is very important and literacy is important," said Brendan Garnett, a preschool teacher at the Y Child Care Center.
