"5, 4, 3, 2, 1!" Eager children sat around a tree outside Greenwich Town Hall counting down to when it would become bright with lights.
The countdown to Christmas has begun as the Town of Greenwich kicked off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting on Monday afternoon.
First Selectman Peter Tesei said, "We have a kick off here with the Greenwich High School Chamber Singers as well as a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and all the young people here are able to get their first opportunity to tell Santa what they want."
Residents got into the holiday spirit with singing, rides on Lucy the Polar Bear and Maurice the Moose and a visit jolly Saint Nick himself.
Rachel Metzger, one of the Greenwich High School Chamber Singers said, "It's important to give back and spread the spirit of Christmas. The holiday spirit and the spirit of loving one another and being selfless."
First Selectman Tesei added, "It's important that there are events throughout the Town that we celebrate the season. It's a season to give thanks and really appreciate what we have and to spread joy."
