The oldest church in Greenwich celebrated a milestone on Mother's Day.

"For three and a half centuries you have provided comfort to our community in times of war, poverty and sorrow while touching the hearts and minds of thousands who have learned many of lifes precious and valuable lessons from you," said State Representative Mike Bocchino.

Sunday marked the beginning of the First Congregational Church of Greenwich's year long celebration of 350 years in the town.

As many in Greenwich know, the formation of the church and the founding of the Town of Greenwich are closely tied.

"On May 18th, 1665 our Church was finally chartered by the State of Connecticut, and in those days the rule was that there was no separation of Church and State. You could only have a town declared if there was a Church."said church historian Pat Larrabee.

The Church will continue their anniversary celebrations by creating a historical float for the Memorial Day Parade which will take place along Sound Beach Avenue on Monday, May 25th.
