"Trees need dirt to grow."

And the preschoolers at First Congregational Church of Greenwich gave this tree all the dirt it needs to grow.

"We are planting a tree. it's n honor of Earth Day and the Church's 350th anniversary," said Darla Steiner, the preschool director.

This tree is also the result of a project that was started in the fall. A large oak tree was cut down in the church's lawn because it was old and weak.

"The children became fascinated by watching this process of the workers taking it down," said Steiner.

And now these preschoolers will be recognized and remembered with a marker that will soon be placed next to the new tree.

"It will designate the tree being plated by the children on the 350th anniversary of the church," said Steiner.
