April 10 is "Be Here, Be Mindful" day at Greenwich Public Schools.

"It's part of our social, emotional learning. We believe that having these norms for the children to include in their day everyday is important," said Laurie Robben of North Mianus School.

Classes completed different projects, such as a mindfulness tree and a sensory exercise.

Students made observations like:

"I heard a low, hissing sound,"

"Everywhere I looked, I saw blue."

"I smelled vanilla."

This second grade class at North Mianus School has been practicing being here and mindful all year.

"Scientists have proven that deep breathing calms the whole body," said Robben.

"It puts oxygen through your brain and makes you calm."

"It calms me."

"It helps us as teachers, it helps them as human beings. It provides an environment for teaching that's effective for everybody," said Robben.

There are also activities taking place at International School at Dundee and North Street School.
