The ZAC Foundation along with the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich are in the midst of their 4th year of Zac Camps.

The ZAC Foundation was created to continue the legacy of 6-year-old Zachary Archer Cohn who tragically drowned in a drain entrapment in 2007.

"We created the foundation to teach other families and children how to be safe in and around water," said Karen Cohn, Co-Founder of the Zac Foundation.

"They took something that was tragic and turned it into a positive that's affecting thousands of kids across the country and it's great that they chose to partner with Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich and Boys and Girls Clubs of America, they're making a difference in a lot of kids lives," said Don Palmer, Program Director at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich.

The foundation aims to demonstrate that water safety is much more than just learning to swim.

"Zachary was a really great swimmer and so we thought as parents that to protect him we did everything that we were supposed to do but we had no idea that there were these dangers lurking in our own backyard pool," said Cohn.

The ZAC Camps include in water swim instruction, a classroom curriculum on water safety and helpful exercises with first responders. And as we approach the summer season, water safety becomes increasingly important in Greenwich as residents are surrounded by water.

"There is a lot of water in this area and it's very important that the kids learn the basics of how to keep themselves safe and how to help somebody else if there is a problem," said Palmer.
