It was a sea of green in Greenwich Sunday afternoon, for the 40th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Edward Patrick Kelly and his family have been participating in the parade for over 30 years. "Heritage brings us out here. We have been coming out here for about 30 years and we have about 40 people marching today just from our own family."

Families lined the streets as town leaders, local marching bands and organizations celebrates Irish culture and community.

Girl Scouts from Troop 0941 Amelya & Alexandra were marching for the first time in this year's parade. Alexandra said she was excited to "see my family wave at me while I am going past them."

Amelya said she was excited to "hold the banner and just have fun with my friends."

Residents say no matter the weather, they look forward to putting on their green and watching the parade every year.

Greenwich native Ashley Wilson said, "I grew up in Greenwich. I live in Stamford now but this is my hometown. I actually used to participate in the parade; I was in the Girl Scouts and it's just a great day for the families and everyone to just come out and have a good time."

Kelly added, "It's fun. It is a lot of fun and it's all tradition - the Irish tradition."
