"To have a faith community that you can come to, it's almost like [the show] 'Cheers' where everyone knows your name and everyone is glad you came. That is the feeling of it."said Daniel England, Associate Pastor at First Congregational Church of Greenwich.

First Congregational Church of Greenwich welcomed their congregation back from summer and into fall with their annual homecoming event on Sunday afternoon.
John Collins, Interim Senior Pastor at First Congregational Church of Greenwich said "During the summer folks are on vacation, folks are away so this church has established this wonderful tradition of choosing a Sunday in the middle of September where we basically invite everyone to come back to our church home. When we think our congregation, we think about it as a church family. So the concept or metaphor of home really works very nicely."
After the morning service, new and old members enjoyed a BBQ, several bounce houses for kids and received information about upcoming events.
Chairmen of the Membership Committee Bruce Glover said "It restarts the spiritual life of the church, getting into the holidays and so forth and it is also an opportunity for new members to become acquainted with the congregation in a more casual, more relaxed setting. So it is a membership outreach opportunity too."
Pastor Daniel England said the church is a home away from home for members of the community. He said, "We're really trying to reach out to the community more, and be there. And let them know that this is a church that has a really broad scope of people who come here."
Pastor Collins said"I like the concept of a church being an extended family. I think that at it's best, it provides especially for young families with young children, a place for those children to feel really a part of something larger than just their immediate family and to be welcomed and to be accepted and embraced and so forth. This church does that so well."
