"Swim Across America is getting ready to make waves against cancer with their 7th Annual Greenwich-Stamford Swim"

Swim Across America's Greenwich-Stamford Swim Co-Director Kerry Anderson says for the 7th Annual Swim "we are expecting about 200 swimmers
Swim Across America has been raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment since 1987.
"Swim Across America is a collection of open water and pool related swimming events, that raise millions of dollars every year for a variety of cancer treatment and cancer reasearch programs" said Matt Vossler, founder of Swim Across America. He added "Specifically here in Connecticut, our focus is on the novel therapy projects and programs that are financed by the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy."
For the past 7 years, the Greenwich-Stamford Swim has benefitted the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, the nation's only foundation dedicated exclusively to funding cancer gene therapy research.
Jacque Lang, Swim Across America's Greenwich-Stamford Swim Co-Director said "One of the great things about Swim Across America is that we are a smaller organization, so we're able to really hand select who we want to benefit. All of the money that we raise at all the different events across the county stay locally, so we are able to really make sure that our money is going to be the best research."
Margaret Cianci, Executive Director of the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy says "We have been so excited to be the beneficiaries for the last seven years and it has really become a wonderful partnership. To see the amount of energy and enthusiasm of all the cancer survivors, or friends and family of people with cancer, to see them all swimming to raise money for cancer research has been incredible."
From swimmers, kayakers, boaters and volunteers, the annual event draws hundreds, all of whom are dedicated to finding a cure.
Kate Madoff has participated in the event for several years. "Cancer touches so many peoples lives and for me one of my best friends Brooke, who is also a swimmer in Swim Across America, was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago. That's always been the push for me to get involved with the swim.
Kate is part of a team with fellow swimmer Milena Meehan. "We are captaining a team, so my personal goal is to raise $5,000 and our team goal is to raise $10,000. I want to get as many people out there, whether they are on our team swimmer or they are out in the water on kayaks supporting people in the water or people at the finish line cheering people on when they come through. I want to get as many people involved to make the event bigger and raise more money."
"Last year, the swim raised over 380 thousand dollars for the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy and this year they hope to raise even more. The 7th Annual Greenwich-Stamford Swim will take place on June 22nd at 96 Cummings Point Road at 8am.
