Fifth graders from all around Greenwich gathered to learn new skills and make new friends at the 5th grade Orienteering Adventure Day Monday.

"The students get to meet other students they will be going to middle school with," said Phil D'Amato of Cos Cob Elementary School.

Today, the students who are headed to Central Middle School in the fall got together at Camp Seton for team building activities.

"This way they have a familiar face when they step in the door. They are not intimidated and they meet some friends," said D'Amato.

The kids already know a little bit about one another- they have pen pals from the other elementary schools.

"They write a letter about themselves in Spanish or French. It's about themselves, their family, what their interests are, so when they come and meet, they can talk about what they have in common," said D'Amato.

The Eastern students will meet on Wednesday, April 22 and the Western students will get togther on Thursday, April 23.
