Greenwich Parking Services has a new director, and she is hard at work with some major changes.
"I really want to focus and address on certain things as opposed to just saying, 'yes, it's okay.' I want to get down to the bottom line, the real issue, the real concern, and the real problem," said Rita Azrelyant, the Greenwich Parking Services Director.
Her main focus is on customer service. The Parking Services employees take classes in customer service so they can better help the people of Greenwich.
"We are here to help them. Anytime they have a problem, feel free to come to my office and talk to me. We are always here to help. If you see somebody downtown and you have a question, just grab them. We are always here to help," said Azrelyant.
Parking Services is trying to enhance parking by concentrating on what the needs of the Town are right now.
"Getting an inventory and trying to see if there's a sufficient amount of Handicap parking. If not, maybe we can change and add a couple more. That's a big issue. We are just trying to enhance the parking," said Azrelyant.
And these outdated meters that only accept quarters may soon be a thing of the past.
"The pay by quarters, I really want to bring credit cards intuit he downtown area. We are trying to work with the 'pay by phone' vendor to do pay by phone int he single space meters. We are trying to and it may take a little bit," said Azrelyant.
This change will give people more options to pay for parking. Azrelyant suggests that a bike or even walking to close destinations are always good options too.
"There's a lack of parking and we are trying to address that, not by creating more parking, but kind of reconfigure it. Show people there's alternatives," said Azrelyant.
