The Greenwich Fire Department welcomed three new members to the team. John Nixon, Chris Zaleta, and Brian Schwenk are the newest Greenwich Firefighters.

"Do you faithfully discharge your duties as firefighter according to law and to the best of your ability, so help you God?,"  said Firstselectman Peter Tesei as he  swore in the new guys.

One in particular has a special connection to the Fire Department. His dad is Tom Nixon, the Greenwich Deputy Fire Chief

"He's worked here about 27 years now. He's a Deputy Chief here at the fire department. I'm pretty excited to join him in the ranks, and be able to work with him and for him," said Nixon.

Nixon grew up around the Fire Department and knew he always wanted to be a firefighter.

"That just made sense. It seemed like the best job in the world, and it has been so far," said Nixon.

Nixon served three years as a firefighter in Westport before coming to Greenwich. The day was also special for a now Lt. Shawn Morris.

"Today was  promotional ceremony to position of lieutenant. I've been a firefighter in the Town here for nine years. I'm moving up tot he first level of supervision after some experience as a firefighter," said Morris.

Morris said he got this promotion after a competitive testing process with many other talented candidates.
