The sidewalks of Sound Beach Ave. are full of people, clothes, jewelry, and other merchandise as the Old Greenwich Sidewalk Sales kick into full gear. Shoppers rummage through the many racks of sale items hoping to strike gold.
"We would rather sell it than just hang on to it. People get some great bargains, which makes them very happy, and then hopefully they come back," said Kelley Frey, co-owner of Fred.
For Frey, it's all about the sense of community the sidewalk sale brings to Old Greenwich.
"It gives you a great opportunity to make your store visible to people who might not otherwise come to this street, that live further away rather than just locals," Frey said.
But big cuts in prices doesn't necessarily means big cuts in profit
"If you look at it from a cash flow standpoint, it's a positive, and that's what it's all about right now. It gets you built up so you can bring in your fall inventory," Frey said.
The Old Greenwich Sidewalk Sales goes until Saturday June 28, and the festivities end Sunday with a Block Party starting at 3 p.m. on Sound Beach Ave.
