Warmer weather means fun in the sun and for some Greenwich residents, that means skateboarding.

"Typically March through November is the season (weather permitting) and it's a good place to get some tricks in when it's nice out," said Brian Merlan, an instructor at the Greenwich Skatepark.

Since 2003, the Greenwich Skatepark at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park has been a place for skaters to practice their moves in a safe environment.

"It's always considered a liability whenever you do it anywhere. The number one killer of skateboarders is actually vehicles. So any time you can get people into a park and get them to wear helmets, you are much better off than letting them skate curbs," Merlan.

Colin, a regular skater at the park said, "It's all set up right. There are ramps and you can't find ramps in the streets."

In addition to skating for fun, residents can sign up for lessons and participate in the Go Skate Festival on June 14th.

"I like the rolling and goofing around,"said Hunter, one of the skaters.

"Here you can actually ride the ramps and there is a lot for you to do. Also it's somewhere were we can relax and talk to friends and not have to meet up with them somewhere," said Dennis, one of the skaters.
