Relay For Life kicked off their 2014 fundraising season Wednesday night with an event at the Old Greenwich Civic Center.
"We're inviting everyone to come, test drive a car, grab some free food, bid on some items and find out how they can be a part of Relay for Life," says Sarah Stempien, Co-Chair of Relay For Life 2014.
One of the highlights of the night was a fundraiser with Stamford Ford Lincoln where participants were invited to test drive a car to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
"When they test drive a vehicle, Lincoln will donate $20 for every test drive taken. The Stamford Ford Lincoln Dealership matches that taking it to $40 for every test drive," says Phillip Wren, Lincoln Ford Brand Manager at Stamford Ford Lincoln.
The organization's motto is "celebrate, remember, fight back" and the lives of those participating had been touched by cancer in some way.
"My wife died from breast cancer at 36 years old, 12 weeks after diagnosis, so for me it is a very personal event to be involved with," says Wren.
"I hope that all those babies that I take care of in the nursery that they don't learn the word cancer because it doesn't exist," says Stempien.
