Giving Tuesday is a national campaign to promote charitable activities at the start of the holiday season.
"Giving Tuesday is a movement that started in 2012 and it was really a play off of all of the holiday hysteria," says Jennifer Flatow, Director of Community Engagement at Family Centers. "It takes it from the retail side of things to the philanthropic side of things so what we're saying is that it is an opportunity for good people to do great things on that one day."
On December 3rd, in celebration of the new holiday, Family Centers is participating to help provide preschool scholarships to local kids.
The organization aims to raise $18,000 which equals the cost of one child's preschool education for an entire year.
"The money that is raised on Giving Tuesday is going to help those families who are looking to enroll their children in a preschool experience but are having a struggle making ends meet," says Flatow. "So this is going to be a great way for us to help those families because studies will show that giving your child a preschool education really can make a difference for their whole life."
